The Prime Minister attended the 59th All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar

Highlights of the PM Speech

Deepfakes and digital threats

He emphasized the importance of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat deepfakes, which can disrupt social and familial relationships.

Digital frauds

He suggested to form special teams to combat digital fraud, with a focus on updating crime data and educating the public, such as at school parent-teacher conferences.

Narco-trafficking nexus

He emphasized the need to dismantle the narco-trafficking nexus and advocated for strict action from top to bottom.

Border Security

He directed border police officers to spend nights in villages with senior officials to better understand local issues and build community trust.

Utilizing technology

He advocated for the use of technology to reduce the workload of the police force, as well as the establishment of police stations as resource allocation hubs.

Cyber fraud

He emphasized the importance of electronically updating crime data and improving cyber-related measures, highlighting a loss of ₹11,333 crore in India by September 2024 due to fraud.

Urban policing

He proposed extending successful urban policing initiatives to all 100 cities and promoting the SMART policing approach (Strategic, Meticulous, Adaptable, Reliable, and Transparent).

About 59th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police

The conference was attended by the Union Home Minister, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, the Union Home Secretary, DGsP/IGsP from all States/UTs, and CAPF/CPO heads. 

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) hosted the conference.

The best practices of states and union territories were shared to learn from one another. Emerging threats to national security were discussed, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, cybercrime, economic security, immigration, coastal security, and drug trafficking.
