Context

• The DRDO has successfully completed six consecutive developmental trials of the High Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) 'ABHYAS' with improved configurations, achieving a total of ten trials.
• These tests validated various mission objectives and demonstrated the system's reliability and ease of operation.
• The trials took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Odisha

Design and Development

• Designed by : Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru.
• Production by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
• Autonomous Flight: Equipped with autopilot for autonomous flying.
• Ground Control System: Laptop-based system for integration, pre-flight checks, and flight control.
• Data Recording: In-flight data recording for post-flight analysis.
