The President of India unveiled a new flag and emblem for the Supreme Court.

About Supreme Court's New Flag

• The new flag of the Supreme Court is blue and has important symbols related to Indian legal cultural heritage:
• • • Ashok Chakra is derived from the lion capital of Ashoka and represents the value of upholding the law of Dharma in justice and progress. 

• The Supreme Court building image highlights the significance of the Court in the Indian judiciary and its role in upholding the rule of law in India.

• The Constitution of India highlights that the fundamental legal law of the country is based on constitutional principles, and the key role played by the Supreme Court in upholding those constitutional values.

• • • The blue colour of the flag reflects impartiality and its commitment to justice.

• The emblem in the flag has the inscription “Yato Dharmastato Jayah,” highlighting the Court's guiding principle “Where there is Dharma, there is victory”.

• • • • The inscription is written in Devanagari script.

About Supreme Court

• It was established on January 28, 1950.
• It replaced the Federal Court of India and the Privy Council as the highest judicial body.

• The building design reflects a blend of Indo-British architecture.
• The main building of the court was designed by Ganesh Bhikaji Deolalikar.

• A sculpture of a mother and child inside the Supreme Court complex.
  • • It was created by artist Chintamoni Kar.
    • The sculpture represents Mother India sheltering the young Republic.
    • The open book held by the child symbolises the order of justice.

• The logo of the Supreme Court includes the Dharma Chakra (Wheel of Dharma), the 32 spokes of the wheel symbolises justice, righteousness, and moral order.
