Context:

After the recent survey order of court on Ajmer Dargah, similar survey of is given for Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra in Ajmer, based on a petition as there is an evidence of a Sanskrit college and temple standing at the Jhonpra.

About Adhai Din ka Jhonpra:

It is a 12th-century mosque, commissioned by Qutubuddin Aibak after the Muhammad of Ghor defeated Prithviraj Chauhan in the second Battle of Tarrain.

According to some sources, the Muhammad of Ghor, in Ajmer (capital of Prithviraj Chauhan), destroyed the pillars and foundations of the idol temples and dismantled Visaldeva’s college (the Sanskrit college), a portion of which he turned into a mosque, known as Adhai Din ka Jhonpra.

It is the oldest surviving monument in Ajmer and the second oldest completed mosque in North India after the Quwwat ul Islam mosque in Delhi.

The name of the mosque literally means “The shed of two and a half days” and there are debates about from where the name came. For example: According to some sources, it is so named because Qutubuddin ordered the mosque to be built in only 60 hours; Some say, certain faqirs used to take shelter at the structure during the two-and-a-half day long urs (death anniversary) of their religious leader Panjaba Shah.

A screen wall forms the mosque’s facade with its seven corbelled arches. It was commissioned by Iltutmish, the son-in-law of Qutubuddin.
