The Defence Minister attended the 11th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM-Plus) in Vientiane, Laos.
It serves as a platform for ASEAN and its eight Dialogue Partners; Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States.
The first ADMM-Plus took place in Ha Noi, Vietnam, in 2010.
Since 2017, the ADMM-Plus has met once a year to promote dialogue and cooperation between ASEAN and the Plus Countries.
To support ASEAN Member States in developing capacity to address shared security challenges and acknowledging the differences in capacity among ASEAN Member States.
To strengthen mutual trust and confidence among defense establishments through greater dialogue and transparency.
To promote regional peace and stability by encouraging defense and security cooperation and addressing the region's transnational security challenges.
The ADMM-Plus contributes to the implementation of the Vientiane Action Programme to create a peaceful, secure, and prosperous ASEAN while pursuing outward-looking external relations strategies with its Dialogue Partners.
India-US Defence Cooperation |
The discussions focused on defense operations, information sharing, and industrial innovation under the US-India Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap. Both leaders backed the India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem to encourage collaboration among governments, businesses, and academic institutions to boost defence innovation. |
India-Japan Defence Cooperation |
The Indian Defence Minister stressed the importance of the India-Japan partnership in promoting a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized the similarity of India's Act East Policy and Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision. |
India-Philippines Defence Cooperation |
The defense minister highlighted the Philippines' role in India's Act East Policy and the Indo-Pacific vision. He reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthen defense cooperation with the Philippines. |
