Context :

Recently, The Union Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a 2906 rupee crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)
Under this contract, there will be procurement of Low level Transportable Radar (LLTR).
They are also known as Ashwini.

About Ashwini Radar:

The Ashwini Radar is a Low level Transportable Radar (LLTR).
It is an advanced active electronically scanned phased array radar utilising solid state technology.
It is capable of tracking aerial targets, ranging from high speed fighter aircraft to slower moving targets like Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) & helicopters.
It is developed through a joint effort between the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) & Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
This Radar is fully indigenous.

Key Features:

It has an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Which is integrated with electronic scanning in both azimuth & elevation.
It is providing 4D surveillance
The radar is designed for mobility. It ensures that it can operate in various terrains & in dynamic environments.
It is equipped with advanced Electronic Counter Countermeasures (ECCM).
It can counter electronic warfare threats.
The radar can automatically detect & track aerial targets like fighter jets & slow moving objects such as UAVs & helicopters.
