NASA recently received its first sample of asteroid Ryugu, which was returned to Earth last December by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA) Hayabusa2 spacecraft.
About
It is a near-Earth object and a potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo group.
It measures approximately 1 kilometre in diameter.
Ryugu was discovered in 1999 by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) project.
Ryugu is orbiting the sun between Earth and Mars and occasionally crosses Earth's orbit.
