Context: Review meeting on the Implementation of Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana Chaired by Union Health Ministry.

Details:

  • The Union government advised States to increase the pace of work to achieve the target of functional 1.10 lakh Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by 31st March 2022.
  • With basic healthcare and diagnostic facilities, these Centres also provide effective tele-consultation services through District Hospital or District Medical College Hospital.

Prime Minister Atma Nirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana

  • It is a Central Sector Scheme, announced by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2021.
  • Objective of the Scheme is to expand public healthcare facilities across India.
  • Access to diagnostic services in the public healthcare facilities through laboratories, and Integrated public health labs in all the districts.
  • Center for Critical care services for districts with more than 5 lakh population.
  • Establishing disease surveillance Centers and Investigation centers in all the districts.
  • Under this scheme, the government provides support to expand rural health and wellness centers, and rural health centers.

 

Objectives of Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana

  • Expanding Primary Health Centers, and developing Health and Wellness Centers.
  • Providing Preventive and Curative services, with special focus on Children and Women.
  • Ensure quality medical support systems and better healthcare services across the nation.
  • Improve Infrastructure facilities in the Healthcare sector.
  • The ultimate goal is to Strengthen the primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare systems in urban and rural areas.
