About "Baalpan ki Kavita"

The Union Education Ministry had launched the "Baalpan ki Kavita" initiative to create a summary of nursery rhymes and poems in all Indian languages, as well as English.

Objective:> To provide young children with better learning experiences during their foundational years.

Exposing children to joyful and culturally relevant poems and rhymes in their mother tongue -> help them connect more meaningfully with their surroundings.

The ministry had planned to collaborate with MyGov to invite contributions for the "Baalpan ki Kavita" initiative. Participants could submit existing poems, folklore rhymes, or newly composed pieces under three categories:

  • Pre-primary (ages three to six)
  • Grade 1 (ages six and seven)
  • Grade 2 (ages seven and eight)

Anyone—writers, poets, educators, parents, or students—could participate. Entries were being accepted in all Indian languages and English.

Participants are allowed to submit both original compositions and existing rhymes -> Aim to create a diverse collection of rhymes and poems for different age groups and linguistic backgrounds.

A panel of experts will evaluate the entries based on criteria such as cultural relevance, simplicity, creativity, and suitability for the target age group.

After the competition concludes, the selected rhymes and poems will be compiled -> serve as a resource for schools, teachers, and parents across India and also will be available digitally for wider accessibility.
