Context: Group Captain Shaliza Dhami has been selected by the Indian Air Force to lead a front-line combat unit in the Western area.
Details
- In the Western sector of the IAF bordering Pakistan, Group Captain Dhami will be the first female officer to command a missile squadron. She is currently assigned to a frontline command headquarters' operations division.
- She is a helicopter pilot who was appointed in 2003 and has spent more than 2,800 hours in the air.
- She has operated the helicopters Chetak and Cheetah.
- She is a certified flying instructor and the first female officer in the Indian Air Force to command a Chetak unit.
- She conducted many flood rescue operations in addition to several search-and-rescue missions while piloting a helicopter.
