Context: The digital portal of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) office in Pune was inaugurated by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation on August 6.

• The Ministry of Cooperation has been working towards enhancing the cooperative movement in the country with the motto of "Sahkar se Samridhi". As a part of this effort, the office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies is undergoing computerization to facilitate ease of doing business in the cooperative sector.
• The Central Registrar Office is the authority that regulates the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) in India. The MSCS Act, 2002 and its rules provide the legal framework for the registration and functioning of these societies. The office is undergoing a computerization project to create a digital platform for the MSCS and their stakeholders.

Main objectives of computerization

• Eliminating the need for paper-based applications and processing will save time, money and resources, as well as reduce errors and delays.
• Ensuring automatic compliance with the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act (MSCS Act) and Rules, which will simplify the legal requirements and procedures for the co-operative societies and the office.
• Enhancing Ease of Doing Business, which will attract more cooperative societies to register and operate under the MSCS Act and Rules, and foster a conducive environment for their growth and development.
• Enabling digital communication, which will facilitate a faster and smoother exchange of information and documents between the cooperative societies and the office, as well as among the cooperative societies themselves.
• Promoting transparent processing, this will increase the accountability and credibility of the office, as well as the trust and confidence of the cooperative societies and the public.
• Improving Analytics and MIS (Management Information Systems), which will provide better data and insights for decision-making and policy formulation, as well as monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the cooperative societies and the office.

• Enhanced Service Delivery: The digital portal will simplify and speed up processes, making service delivery more efficient and responsive to cooperative societies' needs. This will save time and eliminate red tape.
