Context:
- Recently, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has decided to start a ‘Chaupal’ like get-together for its personnel to vent their mental agony.
- Chaupal is a popular meeting activity in the rural areas.
About CRPF:
- The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India's largest Central Armed Police Force. It functions under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India.
- It came into existence as the Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939.
- After Indian Independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.
Duties performed by CRPF:
- Crowd control
- Riot control
- Counter Militancy / Insurgency operations.
- Dealing with Left Wing Extremism
- Overall coordination of large scale security arrangement especially with regard to elections in disturbed areas.
- Fighting enemy in the event of War.
- Participating in UN peacekeeping Mission as per Govt. policy.
- Rescue and Relief operations at the time of Natural Calamities and disasters
