  • Government approval of 'City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0)' on May 31, 2023.
  • Conceived by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in collaboration with partners.
  • Partners include the French Development Agency (AFD), KreditanstaltfürWiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA).
  • Program duration: 4 years.

Components of CITIIS 2.0

Component-1: Circular Economy and Integrated Waste Management:

  • Financial and technical support for up to 18 Smart Cities.
  • Focus on projects promoting circular economy.
  • Emphasis on Integrated Waste Management.

Component-2: Climate Action Support:

  • Support extended to all States/Union Territories (UTs).
  • Aims at climate action initiatives.

Component-3: National-Level Interventions:

  • Targeted interventions to facilitate scale-up across cities and towns.

Previous Program - CITIIS 1.0

  • CITIIS 1.0 selected 12 cities through a challenge process.
  • Details of these projects provided in Annexure-I.

Implementation and Support

  • National Project Management Unit at NIUA overseeing the program.
  • Regular visits to project sites and capacity building by NIUA.
  • Domestic experts and international mentors assigned to each CITIIS 1.0 project.
  • Periodic reviews by the Government's program Apex Committee.

  • Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing And Urban Affairs, Shri Kaushal Kishore, provided the information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
  • This comprehensive plan seeks to address urban development challenges through collaborative efforts and focused initiatives under the CITIIS 2.0 program.
