GS PAPER II: Welfare schemes for vulnerable sections of the population by the Centre and States and the performance of these schemes; mechanisms, laws, institutions and Bodies constituted for the protection and betterment of these vulnerable sections.

Context: In response to the rapid surge of COVID-19 cases, Deendayal Antodayay Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission, Ministry of Rural Development initiated online trainings for State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM) staff across 34 states and union territories under its fold.

Need of this move:

  • To capacitate SRLM staff to roll-out trainings for over 69 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHG) under DAY-NRLM’s network.
  • Training focussed on COVID-19 appropriate behaviours, COVID-19 vaccines, health seeking behaviours and immunity building.

About Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana

  • Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), in June 2011 as a restructured version of Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna (SGSY).
  • Aim: Creating efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor enabling them to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements and improved access to financial services.
  • The poor would be facilitated to achieve increased access to their rights, entitlements and public services, diversified risk and better social indicators of empowerment.
  • NRLM believes in harnessing the innate capabilities of the poor and complements them with capacities (information, knowledge, skills, tools, finance and collectivization) to participate in the growing economy of the country.
