DHANAURI WETLAND

Dhanauri Wetland, located near Jewar airport in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar, is a vital bog-type wetland within 15 km of the Yamuna River. It is home to the vulnerable Sarus Crane and various other bird species. Recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA), it plays a crucial role in bird conservation.

About Sarus Crane

  • It is the tallest flying bird in the world and there are three subspecies of Sarus Crane in the world.
  • There are three subspecies of Sarus Crane in the world namely Indian Sarus Crane, Eastern Sarus Crane, and Australian Sarus Crane.
  • The Indian Sarus Crane is the heaviest and tallest of the three Sarus Crane subspecies.
  • It is classified as "vulnerable" under the IUCN Red List.
