• The Government of India announced the integration of Esports with mainline sports disciplines.
  • The President of India in the exercise of the powers "under article 77 of the Constitution" amended the rules governing Esports and asked the union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Sports Ministry to include e-Sports as part of multi-sports events.
• The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed to include e-Sport in the inaugural Olympic Esports Week in Singapore in June 2023.
  • The IOC said that the Olympic Esports Week would showcase the best of virtual sports; hybrid physical and simulated sports, including exhibiting the latest technologies, panel discussions, education sessions and show matches.
• Esports (electronic sports) is a form of competition using video games. Esports often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams.
  • The increasing availability of online streaming media platforms, particularly YouTube, has become central to the growth and promotion of esports competitions.

Article 77 of the Indian Constitution

• It deals with the Conduct of business of the Government of India. It mentions the following provisions:
  • All executive action of the Union Government shall be expressed to be taken in the name of the President.
  • Orders and other instruments made and executed in the name of the President shall be authenticated in such manner as may be specified in rules to be made by the President.
    • The validity of an order or instrument which is so authenticated shall not be called into question on the ground that it is not an order or instrument made or executed by the President.
  • The President shall make rules for the more convenient transaction of the business of the Government of India, and the allocation among Ministers of the said business.
