  • Recently the External Affairs Minister of India visited Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentine to discuss several bilateral and multilateral issues.
    • Argentina desires India's support in restarting international negotiations on the Falkland Islands which Argentina refers to as Islas Malvinas.
  • Mr Jaishankar ensured India's support for restarting discussion on the sovereignty over the Falkland Islands had triggered a war between Argentina and the U.K.
  • British officials stated that there is "no doubt" about the United Kingdom's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.
    • In 2013, in a referendum in the Falklands islands, nearly 99.8% of the voters wanted to maintain their current status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom.
  • The British High Commission has rejected the possibility of restarting the negotiation and highlighted that the "Discussions on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands can only happen if the islanders wish, and they have made it clear that they do not."
