The Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) is a new initiative launched by the Indian government to make international travel easier and secure.
The FTI-TTP is a new initiative by the government to make international travel smoother, faster, and more secure.
It allows registered travellers to use automated e-gates at airports for immigration clearance. These gates open automatically after biometric authentication, provided the traveller scans their boarding pass and passport.
The government launched FTI-TTP in June 2024 at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), marking the beginning of a streamlined immigration process for Indian Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).
The initiative is part of the Centre’s agenda for 'Viksit Bharat @2047' to make India a developed nation by its centenary of independence.
FTI-TTP works through an online portal (https://ftittp.mha.gov.in). To enrol, travellers must register online, provide their details and upload the required documents.
After verification, the traveller is added to a whitelist of "Trusted Travellers." Biometrics are captured either at the Foreigners Registration Office (FRRO) or during airport entry.
Once registered, travellers can simply scan their boarding pass and passport at the e-gates. After biometric authentication, the gate opens automatically, granting immigration clearance.
The programme is being implemented in two phases. Phase one covers Indian nationals and OCI cardholders, while phase two will extend the system to foreign travellers.
The programme is being rolled out across 21 major airports in India, with the initial implementation already in place at a few airports like IGI Airport in Delhi.
The registration for FTI-TTP will be valid until the passport’s expiration or for five years, whichever comes earlier. After that, it will need to be renewed.
Who is responsible for implementing FTI-TTP?
The Bureau of Immigration, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is the nodal agency responsible for implementing the FTI-TTP programme.
