India's GARBH-INi-DRISHTI data repository, part of the DBT India Initiative, supports maternal and child health research. It offers access to clinical data from over 12,000 pregnant women and newborns, aiding studies on pregnancy complications, preterm birth prediction, and improving diagnostic and treatment strategies through collaboration.

India has launched the GARBH-INi-DRISHTI data repository to advance biomedical research.
GARBH-INi stands for the Interdisciplinary Group for Advanced Research on Birth Outcomes – DBT India Initiative.
It is a collaborative research program under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), aimed at improving maternal and child health. The program focuses on understanding pregnancy complications and developing prediction tools for preterm birth.
The Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), located in the NCR Biotech Cluster, Faridabad, leads the program. It collaborates with multiple research institutions and hospitals across India.
It is part of the Atal Jai Anusandhan Biotech Mission – UNaTI (Undertaking Nationally Relevant Technology Innovation), which promotes research on nationally significant health challenges.
It is a data repository and information-sharing platform developed under the GARBH-INi program.
It provides access to clinical data, images, and biospecimens collected from over 12,000 pregnant women, newborns, and postpartum mothers.
It is one of South Asia’s largest pregnancy cohort datasets and serves as a valuable resource for researchers.
It provides clear guidelines on how approved researchers can access the dataset for their studies. This ensures data security, ethical use, and impactful research.
It acts as a gateway to high-quality pregnancy-related data, allowing researchers to:

PRACTICE QUESTION Q.Consider the following statements about the GARBH-INi program: 1. It focuses on understanding pregnancy complications. 2. It only involves research institutions in India. 3. It aims to develop prediction tools for preterm birth. Which of the above statements are correct? A) 1 and 2 only B) 2 and 3 only C) 1 and 3 only D) 1, 2, and 3 Answer: C Explanation: Statement 1 is correct: The GARBH-INi program aims to study factors contributing to adverse pregnancy outcomes, including complications like preterm birth. Statement 2 is incorrect: While led by Indian institutions, the program may collaborate with international partners for research and expertise, as is common in large health initiatives. Statement 3 is correct: A key objective is to create predictive models and interventions to reduce preterm births. |
