  • To spread awareness among the public against throwing waste into the Ghaggar River, trans-Ghaggar residents carried out a cleanliness drive at Chatt Puja Ghat of the river recently.

About

  • It is a seasonal river that only flows during the monsoon season.
  • It rises in northwestern Himachal Pradesh from the Shivalik Range.
  • It travels approximately 200 miles (320 kilometers) southwest through Haryana state, where it joins the Saraswati River.
  • It finally dries up in Rajasthan's Thar Desert.
  • This seasonal river provides water to two irrigation canals that run into Rajasthan.
  • The Hakra River in Pakistan is a continuation of the Ghaggar River in India; thus, the two rivers are known as the Ghaggar-Hakra River.
  • Ghaggar is associated with the Vedic Saraswati River, according to certain historians.
  • Many Indus Valley Civilization settlements have been excavated along the banks of the Ghaggar River.
