The Prime Minster participated in the Ashtalakshmi 2024 to celebrate the culture, craftsmanship, and empowerment of North East India.
The event brings together the eight states of the Northeast region to showcase their unique treasures, such as handwoven textiles, organic produce, and aromatic spices. The event highlighted the value of GI-tagged products in maintaining regional traditions and promoting global recognition.
Adi Kekir ginger, grown in the Dibang Valley by the Adi tribe, is well-known for its medicinal properties and distinct aroma. It improves digestion and relieves menstrual pain. Other products such as Wakro Orange and Monpa Maize, has been also granted the GI status.
Dalle Khursani, a fiery red pepper, grown under organic conditions, is valued for its the spicy flavor and medicinal properties. Other GI-tagged Sikkim products, such as Sikkim Large Cardamom, Temi Tea, and Sikkim Orchids, support the state's economic growth and connecting tradition with global markets.
Naga King Chilli, one of the world's hottest chilies, is an important part of Naga cuisine and cultural heritage. This chili is known for its intense heat and flavor. Other GI-tagged Nagaland products, such as Naga Tree Tomato and Chak Hao rice, reflect the area's agricultural wealth.
Assam is home to products like the Kaji Nimu, a large and aromatic lemon, and the Tezpur Litchi, which have earned the GI Tag. Other GI-recognized products include Joha Rice, Bodo Keradapini Spices, and Boka Chaul Rice.
The GI tag is a mark of recognition that provides cultural and economic benefits. It supports the region's agricultural and handloom traditions and also create new opportunities for farmers and artisans. It assures that the products are respected and recognized both locally and globally to ensure a long-term prosperity.
