Context

  • North India’s first nuclear power plant is coming up in Gorakhpur, Haryana, about 150 km north of the national capital.

First Nuclear Plant in Haryana’s Gorakhpur

  • The Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plantor the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) is a proposed nuclear power plant to be built on a 560 hectares area west of Gorakhpur village of Fatehabad district of Haryana.
  • Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP), which will have two units of 700 MWe capacity each of pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) indigenous design.
