Recently, artists from the Gond tribe performed the Gussadi dance during the ‘Praja Palana Vijayotsav’ to commemorate the completion of one year of the Congress government in Telangana.
Gussadi dance is performed by the Gond tribe and it is a part of their Dandari festival which is celebrated by the Rajgond tribe during Diwali.
Gussadi is performed in groups. Each group consists of around 40 members.
They wear colorful clothes, turbans studded with peacock feathers, jewelry, deer antlers, goat skin, artificial mustaches and beards, etc.
They visit people’s homes and temples, singing and dancing in groups.
They also use various instruments like Dappu, Tudumu, Vette, Dolki, Pipri, and Kolikammu.
As a part of their tradition, performers wash their feet after the performance to show respect.
Another highlighting feature is that only men participate in the dance.
The Gond tribes are one of the largest tribal communities in the world spread across Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Gujarat.
Subdivision: Raj, Madia, Dhurve, Khatulwar.
They have formed many kingdoms of historical significance and are notified as Schedule Tribes for the purpose of reservation.
Their staple food is Kodo and Kutki millet, and Rice is consumed mostly during festivals.
