Context :

  • Khanjar-XII is the 12th edition of the annual India Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise.
  • The exercise is set to take place in Kyrgyzstan in march 2025.

Key Details:

  • 1st Held: in December 2011 in Nahan India.
  • Frequency: it is an Annual event. It happens alternating between India & Kyrgyzstan.
  • Indian Contingent: Parachute Regiment (Special Forces).
  • Kyrgyzstan Contingent: Kyrgyz Scorpion Brigade.

Objectives:

  • Primary Goal: it exchange expertise in counterterrorism operations & special forces tactics.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Mountainous and high altitude environments.
    • Advanced sniping.
    • Close quarters combat.
    • Complex building interventions.
    • Mountain warfare techniques.

Cultural Engagement:

  • Cultural Ties: Along with military exercises, the exercise will also promote cultural exchange including the celebration of the Kyrgyz New Year festival Nowruz.
