  • According to a study published in Scientific Reports scientists have found a new mega predator, called Lorrainosaurus.

Details

  • Lorrainosaurus had a 4.3-foot-long jaw and torpedo-shaped body.
  • It belonged to the clade of pliosaurs called Thalassophonea or sea murderers, which existed 170 million years ago during the Age of Dinosaurs and have now been identified as the oldest known mega-predators of their time.

Pliosaurs were a type of aquatic reptile closely related to their long-necked counterparts, the plesiosaurs, resembling something like a brontosaurus with flippers instead of legs.
