Context: The Union Government forms Task Force for 'generating employment opportunities’ under Mission Youth.

About Mission Youth

• The Government initiated Mission Youth with the objective to bridge the aspirations and concerns of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
• The Mission is an ambitious initiative that aimed to provide a vibrant medium for youth engagement and empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir.
• The approach under the mission is to encourage youth to promote peace, prosperity and socio-economic growth through systematic interventions.
• The mission will focus on all individuals between the age of 15 to 25 years.
• The Mission has two main objectives:
  • Support and encourage youth in fulfilling their potential while addressing their needs and concerns.
  • Support youth to shape their future as per their aspirations.

Objectives of the Mission

• One youth centre will be set up in every district to connect with the youth.
• Proper sports facilities will be made available at district youth centres.
• Each district centre will have professional councillors for productive engagement with the youth.
  • The councillors will be experts in the fields of psychology, sports and commerce, they will provide necessary guidance to the youth.
• Youth not having a formal education, training or employment will be supported to develop their skills and improve their skills and employment opportunities.
  • E-learning will be promoted.
  • Coaching for entrance examinations will be sponsored.
  • Skill development courses will be sponsored.
• The physical, mental and emotional well-being of youth will be promoted at the District Youth centres.
  • Special counselling will be given for drug de-addiction.
• Training designed to fulfil the needs of the industry.
• Provide financial assistance to youth for promoting Self-employment.
• Support Young people and encourage them to develop their creativity and skills in the visual arts and media.
• Tour programs for the young people will be sponsored to engage them with the youth in other parts of the country.
• Provide guidance and coaching to budding sportspersons will be provided expert guidance and coaching.
• Regular sports events/tournaments at the District level to promote the spirit of healthy competition among youth.
• Working in close coordination with other governmental/ non-governmental agencies.

Significance of the Mission

• To ensure Government, civil society, public and private sectors, respond to the needs and concerns of youth and perform in their best interests with a view to maximising their human potential.
• To promote user-friendly access to quality services and equality of opportunity with the aim of assuring their active participation in the economy and society.
• Involving Youth at all levels of planning and decision making as active participants.
• Promote inclusive development and take steps to ensure that young people are not directly or indirectly excluded.
• It will promote respect and dignity for all young people regardless of their beliefs, socio-economic background, and gender.
• It will support and promote the beliefs, culture, and personal capabilities of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir
• It will encourage youth in developing their physical, intellectual and emotional capacities, skills, and abilities.
• Support families and communities by ensuring active participation of youth in the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.
• It will promote a sense of inclusiveness and unity.
• It will also improve their income and standard of living.
