The Union Minister Minister of Rural Development inaugurated the NAKSHA pilot project at Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.
The National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) Program, is a pilot project to modernize land records in urban areas.
It aims to create and update land records in urban areas to ensure accurate and reliable documentation of land ownership.
It will empower citizens, improve ease of living, enhance urban planning, and reduce land-related disputes
The pilot program is fully funded by the Union Government, with an estimated cost of ₹194 crore.
Drones will conduct aerial surveys to capture high-resolution imagery of urban areas, replacing traditional survey methods. This will improve accuracy and efficiency in land record updates.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the NAKSHA program will be released, along with promotional materials to educate stakeholders about the initiative’s goals.
The event flagged off the Watershed Development Corps (WDC) Yatra, a campaign to promote watershed management, supported by screenings of WDC videos and the Watershed Anthem.
Create and update land records in 152 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across 26 states and 3 union territories (UTs), including Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
Resolve land disputes by ensuring accurate documentation of ownership.
Enhance urban planning through reliable geospatial data.
Empower citizens by digitizing property records and improving transparency.
Boost revenue collection for municipalities via accurate property tax assessments.
Survey of India: Acts as the technical partner, conducting aerial surveys and providing orthorectified imagery (high-resolution, geospatially accurate maps) to state governments via third-party vendors.
Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation (MPSEDC): Develops the end-to-end web-GIS platform for data management.
National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI): Provides storage infrastructure for the program’s digital assets.
State Governments: Conduct field surveys and ground truthing using the imagery provided, finalizing urban and semi-urban land records.
Accurate, tamper-proof digital records will replace outdated paper-based systems.
Clear ownership documentation will minimize legal conflicts over property.
IT-based systems will enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for citizens.
Data-driven urban planning will support infrastructure projects and disaster management.
