Context - The Minister of Civil Aviation has launched National Air Sport Policy 2022.

 

Details

  • The National Air Sport Policy 2022 was announced with a clear vision of making India the top sports nation by 2030.
  • It aims to provide a safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable air sports ecosystem in India.

 

Key features of the National Air Sport Policy 2022.

  • The term ‘Air sports’ includes the activities that involve the medium of air. These include;
    • Air-racing
    • Aerobatics
    • Aero modelling
    • Hang gliding
    • Paragliding
    • Para motoring
    • Skydiving, etc.
  • India has the potential to become the foremost nation in the world of air sports.
    • India has a large geographical area, diverse topography, and fair-weather conditions.
  • The policy has been drafted based on the inputs received from policymakers; air sports practitioners and other stakeholders.
  • The main objective is to ensure good quality infrastructure, equipment, instructors and services.
  • The policy will cover the following air sports: -
    • Aerobatics, Aero modelling and model rocketry.
    • Amateur-built and experimental aircraft.
    • Ballooning Drones.
    • Gliding and powered gliding.
    • Hang gliding and powered hang gliding
    • Parachuting (including skydiving, jumping and wing suits etc.)
    • Paragliding and para-motoring
    • Powered aircraft
    • Rotorcraft
  • The policy would create a four-tier governance structure;
    • Air Sports Federation of India will be the highest governing body.
    • National associations for individual air sports or a set of air sports.
    • Regional or State and Union Territory level units of the national air sports associations.
    • District-level air sports associations.

  • Attract air sports enthusiasts from all over the world.
  • Promote travel and tourism.
  • It will support services and local infrastructure development.
  • Help India to become an air sports hub by 2030.
  • Promote an air sports culture in the country.
  • Encourage good practices in safety.
  • Ensure the availability of air sports infrastructure, equipment, operations, maintenance and training.
  • Develop a simple and effective governance structure.
