  • The Vice-President of India inaugurated the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2023 in New Delhi on 7th January 2023.

Key Points of the Vice-President’s speech;

  • The NCC is the world’s largest youth organization.
  • NCC is a trained human reservoir to provide selfless service to society and be available anytime for any national cause.
    • It supports the task of nation-building by instilling character, companionship, leadership and the spirit of selfless service among young students.
    • It represents India's unity in diversity.
  • In our diverse country, NCC camps and group activities generate a feeling of appreciation for each other’s uniqueness and cultivate friendship.
    • It created a truly vibrant and diverse cadre of motivated and disciplined youth who are doing excellent work in all walks of life.
    • It creates awareness amongst youth about the diverse heritage of our country and encourages national integration despite linguistic, cultural, religious and geographical barriers.
  • NCC develops a spirit of working as a team and togetherness, experiences living together, cooperating and working in harmony with cadets of other states.
    • It encourages the development of Ethics and social values, the spirit of unity and the value of personal sacrifice.
  • NCC can be described as the nation’s disciplined, trained and motivated young force available for national service to assist everywhere and anywhere.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

  • NCC is the largest uniformed youth organization in the world and was raised in 1948 under the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948.
  • It is a voluntary organization that recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities all over India.
  • National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth into disciplined and patriotic citizens.
  • The motto of NCC is “Unity and Discipline”.
  • The Union Defense Ministry deals with NCC at the National level.
    • The Union Education Ministry deals with NCC in all states.
  • The NCC aims at;
    • Developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens.
    • Creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities from all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose.
    • Creating a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, to Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.
    • Providing a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
