NATIONAL CENTRE FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE (NCGG)

Context: The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in India is conducting a one-week capacity-building program for senior officers of the Information Commission of Maldives (ICOM). This program is a part of NCGG's initiatives to promote good governance, enhance service delivery, and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Key Highlights

  • The capacity-building program aims to facilitate the exchange of information, knowledge sharing, the introduction of new ideas and best practices, and enhance the sensitivity, responsiveness, and efficiency of participating countries' officers.
  • The program covers various topics, including the Right to Information Act of India, the role and functions of the Central Information Commission (CIC), obligations of public authorities, State Information Commissions' roles and challenges, capacity building of Public Information Officers, case handling and management, appellate processes, appeals management and processing, RTI awareness raising exercises, transparency audits, monitoring and reporting functions of CIC, and e-initiatives.
  • The program includes exposure visits to various locations, including Pradhan Mantri Sanghralaya, Central Information Commission, Taj Mahal, and others, to provide participants with a holistic view of governance and administrative practices.
  • The National Centre for Good Governance was established by the Government of India in 2014. It serves as an apex institution for good governance, policy reforms, and civil servant training. NCGG has worked with several developing countries in building the capacity of their civil servants.
