About the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS)

• NIMAS was established by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh as an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Defence.
• It is situated in Dirang, which is located in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. This location is strategically chosen due to its proximity to the Eastern Himalayas, offering an ideal setting for mountaineering and adventure sports training.
• The primary mission of NIMAS is to provide world-class training in mountaineering and adventure sports across various domains: land, air, and water.
• NIMAS offers a comprehensive range of certifications and courses in different adventure sports disciplines. These courses are designed to equip participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to excel in their chosen field.
• Some of the adventure sports disciplines covered include:
  • Mountaineering: Training in climbing techniques, expedition planning, and high-altitude survival.
  • Mountain Terrain Biking: Skills development in biking across challenging mountain terrains.
  • White Water Rafting: Techniques for navigating and rafting through turbulent river waters.
  • Scuba Diving: Training in underwater diving, safety protocols, and marine exploration.
  • Paramotor: Instruction in powered paragliding for aerial adventures.
  • Paragliding: Techniques for gliding through the air using a parachute-like wing.
