The Union Finance Minister has announced the “National Manufacturing Mission” in the Union Budget 2025-26.  

About the National Manufacturing Mission

The Union Minister for Finance announced the National Manufacturing Mission in the Union Budget 2025-26.  

This mission covers small, medium, and large industries to support the "Make in India" initiative.  

It provides policy support, execution roadmaps, and a governance and monitoring framework for central ministries and states.

What are the five focal areas of the National Manufacturing Mission?

The Mission emphasizes five focal areas. These are:

  • Ease and cost of doing business
  • A future-ready workforce for in-demand jobs
  • A vibrant and dynamic MSME sector
  • Availability of technology
  • Production of quality products

What specific areas of manufacturing will the Mission support?

The Mission will support Clean Tech manufacturing to improve domestic value addition and build the ecosystem for several key areas. These include solar PV cells, EV batteries, motors and controllers, electrolyzers, wind turbines, very high voltage transmission equipment, and grid-scale batteries.

What measures are being taken for labor-intensive sectors?

The government will launch specific policy and facilitation measures to promote employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in labor-intensive sectors.

What is the Focus Product Scheme for the footwear and leather sectors?

The government will implement a Focus Product Scheme to enhance the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of India's footwear and leather sector.

The scheme will support design capacity, component manufacturing, and the machinery required for producing non-leather quality footwear, as well as leather footwear and products.

The scheme expects to facilitate employment for 22 lakh persons, generate a turnover of Rs. 4 lakh crore, and achieve exports of over Rs. 1.1 lakh crore.

What is the National Action Plan for Toys?

The government proposed a National Action Plan for Toys to make India a global hub for toys. It will focus on the development of clusters, skills, and a manufacturing ecosystem. This ecosystem will create high-quality, unique, innovative, and sustainable toys that represent the "Made in India" brand.

What enhancements are being made for MSMEs?

The credit guarantee cover for MSMEs will increase from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore. The government will also enhance the investment and turnover limits for MSME classification to 2.5 and 2 times, respectively.
