Context - The National Monuments Authority organised an event to celebrate World Heritage Day.
Details
- The National Monuments Authority organized a unique Heritage Walk to Celebrate World Heritage Day.
- The Heritage walk was organised around the historical Anang Tal, Mehrauli.
- ‘Anang Tal’; 11th Century mini-lake built by the founder King of Delhi Anang Pal Tomar in 1052 AD.
- The Heritage walkers included several archaeologists, historians, and research fellows from various universities.
National Monuments Authority
- National Monuments Authority works under the Ministry of Culture.
- The Authority was established as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains AMASR (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010.
- The aim of the Authority is to;
- Work for the protection and preservation of monuments and sites.
- Management of the prohibited and regulated areas around the centrally protected monuments.
- Evaluate the permissions for construction-related activity in the prohibited and regulated area.
World Heritage Day
- International Day for Monuments and Sites also known as World Heritage Day held on 18 April each year around the world.
- The theme for World Heritage Day 2022 is “Heritage and Climate”.
- The International Day for Monuments and Sites was approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.
- Its aim is to promote awareness regarding the diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.
- 40 monuments and sites in India are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
