Context:

The President of India awarded the National Panchayat Awards 2024 on 11th December at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

National Panchayat Awards 2024

The awards was launched in 2022 to recognize and encourage Panchayats for their work in areas such as poverty alleviation, health, child welfare, water conservation, sanitation, infrastructure, social justice, governance, and women's empowerment. 

Its objective is to inspire other rural local governments to do their best and contribute to sustainable, inclusive development in rural areas.

The book titled 'Best Practices on the Works of Awardee Panchayats' was released to explore the innovative and impactful practices of the award-winning Panchayats. 

National Panchayat Awards align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

 The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) has divided the 17 SDGs into nine Local Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) themes and redesigned the National Panchayat Awards around these themes. These include Poverty-Free and Improved Livelihoods Panchayat, Healthy Panchayat, Water-Sufficient Panchayat, Clean and Green Panchayat, and others.

Key categories under the National Panchayat Awards 2024

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) to the top three ranking Gram Panchayats/Equivalent bodies for their performance in each of the nine award categories.

Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar to the top three Gram, Block, and District Panchayats based on overall performance across all nine award themes.

Special categories of awards

Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar is awarded to the best performing Panchayats in terms of renewable energy adoption.

Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar is awarded to panchayats that achieve carbon neutrality.

Panchayat Kshamta Nirmaan Sarvottam Sansthan Puraskar is awarded to institutions that help Gram Panchayats achieve the LSDGs.
