Recently, Deep-sea fishing survey was conducted by the Fisheries Survey of India (FSI). This survey has discovered new, rich fishing grounds in the Arabian Sea funded by the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana scheme.
The survey covered areas from Kollam in Kerala to Goa. It was discovering areas with abundant fish & crustaceans such as shrimp, prawns & various fish species.
These findings are important to boost India's fishing industry & it also ensures food security when coastal fisheries are facing pressure because of overfishing & climate change.
