Striking Feature

An unusual “eyebrow” bone is one of the most striking features of this dinosaur and likely held a horn once.

Categorisation

Studies conducted show that the species belongs to the metriacanthosaurids, and is linked to the predatory dinosaurs of East Asia.

Significance:

  • It is the first theropod dinosaur found in this area.
  • No giant predatory dinosaurs had yet been found between central Europe and East Asia. But the new discovery changes this. This discovery closes a huge gap in our knowledge of the Jurassic theropods. It leads us to important new insights into the evolution and biogeography of these animals.
