Context:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has finalized the 'Draft Guidelines for Implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in Higher Education' to increase educational access and promote the concept of lifelong learning.

What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

It is a formal mechanism for evaluating and recognizing an individual's previous skills, knowledge, and experience gained through informal, non-formal, or experiential learning.  

It aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 focus on inclusive and skill-based education. 

The guidelines support NEP's vision by allowing individuals to obtain formal recognition for skills acquired through informal or non-formal learning,  which improves their career opportunities and employability.

Why has the UGC introduced the RPL guidelines?

The UGC established these guidelines to address the challenges faced by a large informal workforce
