  • The 5th Poshan Pakhwada is being observed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to promote good eating habits and bring attention to the value of nutrition through Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari.

Poshan Pakhwada

  • Poshan Pakhwada is observed for 15 days in March. Similar to this, September is recognised nationwide as Rashtriya Poshan Maah.
  • All States/UTs, frontline employees, relevant Ministries, as well as the general people, have so far shown a great deal of excitement and participation in the Poshan Maah and Pakhwada celebrations.
  • "Nutrition for All: Together Towards a Healthy India" is the theme of the Poshan Pakhwada 2023.
  • This year, Poshan Pakhwada will concentrate on promoting "Shree Anna: the mother of all grains", as a useful tool to combat malnutrition, in light of the declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets.
  • The following major themes will be highlighted during the Poshan Pakhwada activities:
    • Promoting and popularising Shree Anna and millets for nutritional well-being by setting up campaigns to link millet-based foods with supplemental nutrition, home visits, diet consultation camps, etc.
    • Swasth Balak Spardha: Celebrate and honour the "Swasth Balak" or Healthy Child per established standards by encouraging a healthy spirit of competition for good nutrition, good health, and well-being.
    • Promote Saksham Anganwadis: Campaigns will be run to raise awareness and promote Saksham Anganwadis as centres for better nutrition delivery and early childhood care and education, with updated infrastructure and services.
  • The key ministry for organising events during the Poshan Pakhwada would be the Ministry of Women & Child Development.
