Context: The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) launched "PRAGATI-2024," an initiative designed to shape the future of Ayurveda by fostering collaboration between the industry and research institutions.

• The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Ayush, recently launched "PRAGATI-2024," which stands for Pharma Research in AyurGyan And Techno Innovation. This initiative aims to explore research opportunities and foster collaboration between CCRAS and the Ayurveda drug industry.

About the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS):

• Autonomous Body: CCRAS operates as an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH. This autonomous status allows it to function independently while still being accountable to the government.  CCRAS is headquartered in New Delhi.
• Apex Body for Ayurvedic Research: CCRAS serves as the apex body in India for undertaking, coordinating, formulating, developing, and promoting research on scientific lines in Ayurvedic sciences. It plays a crucial role in advancing knowledge and practices in the field of Ayurveda.
• Research Activities: The research activities of CCRAS cover various aspects of Ayurvedic sciences, including:
  • Medicinal Plant Research: This includes activities such as Medico-Ethno Botanical Survey, Pharmacognosy, and Tissue Culture.
  • Drug Standardisation: CCRAS is involved in standardising Ayurvedic drugs to ensure their quality, safety, and efficacy.
  • Pharmacological Research: Research is conducted to explore the pharmacological properties of Ayurvedic medicines.
  • Clinical Research: CCRAS conducts clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatments.
  • Literary Research & Documentation: This involves the preservation and study of classical Ayurvedic texts and literature.
  • Tribal Health Care Research Programme: CCRAS also focuses on addressing the healthcare needs of tribal communities through research and interventions.
  • Formulation and Coordination: The council is responsible for the formulation, coordination, development, and promotion of research on scientific lines in Ayurveda and the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine. This includes developing research policies, guidelines, and initiatives to advance the field.
