Context
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has visited Sri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Temple in Delhi and paid his obeisance on the occasion of Ravidas jayanti.
About Guru Ravidas
- Guru Ravidas was an Indian mystic, poet, social reformer and spiritual guru who made remarkable contributions in the form of devotional songs, verses, spiritual teachings during the Bhakti movement.
- Ravidas was born in 1377 CE to the Chamar community.
- Guru Ravidas ji worked against social division based on caste through his verses and teachings.
- He also wrote 40 poems in the Adi Granth, which is the sacred scripture of Sikhism.
Ravidassia Religion
- The Ravidassia religion, also called the Ravidas Panth, is a religious sect of the Sikhism, founded in the 14th century.
- It is based on the teachings of guru Ravidass, revered as a Satguru by the Ravidassia tradition.
- Ravidassia places of worship contain the holy book Amritbani which contains all the hymns by Guru Ravidas.
Teachings
Ravidas Ji taught the following principles:
- The oneness, omnipresence and omnipotence of God.
- If mind is healthy, everything is fine.
- The human soul is a particle of God.
- The rejection of the notion that God cannot be met by lower castes.
- To realize God, which is the goal of human life, man should concentrate on God during all rituals of life.
- The only way of meeting with God (moksha) is to free the mind from duality.
If your heart is pure, the water in your bathtub is holy water. You need not go anywhere to take a holy dip.
