Details
- The Chief Justice of India stated that to make it easier for citizens to request information from the Supreme Court, a portal for RTI applications has been established.
- The Supreme Court was hearing a petition asking it to order all high courts' registrar generals to set up and launch an online RTI portal for both the district judiciary and the high courts.
- The bench instructed the registrar general of high courts to seek administrative guidance from the chief justice of High Courts on the district judiciary, which is managed by the high courts on an administrative level.
- The bench declared that the high courts would be free to use the National Informatics Center's (NIC) resources for this purpose. The high courts will get all necessary logistical and technical support in this regard from the NIC.
- The bench said that a certified copy of its ruling must be sent to each registrar general, who would then ask the chief justices of the high courts for administrative guidance on how to carry it out.
