About Saipan
- Saipan, an island in the Mariana Islands and a part of the Northern Mariana Islands, a self-governing commonwealth in association with the United States. It is located in the western Pacific Ocean.
- It is a hilly island, with Mount Takpochao being its highest point at 1,545 feet.
- Saipan is approximately 14 miles long and 5 miles wide at its widest point, with Laolao Bay and Tanapag Harbor on either side.
- Tinian, a smaller island, is situated southwest of Saipan, across the Saipan Channel.
- The seat of government for the Northern Mariana Islands is located on Saipan, with the executive and legislative branches headquartered at Capital Hill and the judiciary meeting at Susupe.
- Saipan relies primarily on tourism and related industries for its economy, with subsistence crops such as taro, cassava, yams, breadfruit, and bananas being grown.
