Context :

  • Recently , A wildfire has spread across 50 hectares of the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Udaipur.

About Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary

  • It is Situated in Udaipur city, Rajasthan.
  • Hill Range: Aravalli hill range.
  • Size: The sanctuary covers an area of 19 square km.

Historical Significance:

  • The sanctuary is situated near the Sajjangarh Fort.
  • This fort was built in 1874 by Maharana Sajjan Singh of the Mewar dynasty on Bansdara Hill.
  • Bari Lake is also known as Tiger Lake.
  • It is situated on the western slope of the sanctuary.
  • This lake was built by Maharana Raj Singh of the Mewar dynasty.

Vegetation:

  • The sanctuary has deciduous & semi evergreen

Flora:

  • The vegetation is dominated by trees like teak, mango, neem, jamun, khair & ber.
  • The presence of bamboo groves further adds to the biodiversity of the area.

Fauna:

There are Panthers, Hyenas, Wild boars, Jackals, Sloth bears, Sambar deer, Spotted deer, Four-horned antelopes
