Context:

The Union Government has launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana to empower women as LIC agents and Amrit Gyaan Kosh Portal for governance training under the Capacity Building Commission.

BIMA SAKHI YOJNA  

It is an initiative by the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to empower women by promoting financial literacy and insurance awareness.

The plan is to appoint two lakh Bima Sakhis over the course of three years.

The main objective is to empower women by increasing financial literacy and insurance awareness while also providing them with professional opportunities in the insurance sector.

Eligibility

Women aged 18 to 70 years who have completed Class 10 are eligible. However, relatives of current agents and employees, as well as retired LIC employees, are not eligible.

Training and Financial Support

Participants receive specialized training and an allowance for the first three years.

  • First year: Rs. 7,000 per month.
  • Second year: Rs.6,000 per month.
  • Third year: Rs. 5,000 per month.

Bima Sakhis can earn a commission of Rs. 48,000 (excluding bonuses) in their first year of service.

Career opportunities

Bima Sakhis can become LIC agents after completing the necessary training. Graduate Bima Sakhis can also apply for positions as development officers at LIC.

AMRIT GYAAN KOSH

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has launched the "Amrit Gyaan Kosh" Portal.

The portal is developed by the Capacity Building Commission and Karmayogi Bharat.

It organizes resources on a wide range of policy issues, including health, education, agriculture, and digital governance.

The portal includes case studies, teaching notes, and versions in Hindi and Braille to promote inclusivity and accessibility. It reflects the "whole of government" approach, highlighting self-reliance in governance training.

PM POSHAN

The central government has revised the prices of food items provided to children as part of the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana.

It is a centrally sponsored scheme that provides one hot cooked meal to 11.70 crore students in Balvatika and classes I to VIII at 10.24 lakh Government and Government-aided schools on all school days. 

It aims to provide nutritional support to students and also increase their school participation.

Ingredients provided under the PM POSHAN Scheme

The Labor Bureau creates the inflation index based on the Consumer Price Index - Rural Laborers (CPI-RL) by collecting monthly prices from 600 villages across twenty states.

The Material Cost was increased by 13.70% beginning December 1, 2024. The revised rates are:

  • Balvatika and primary classes receive Rs 6.19 per meal, up from Rs 5.45 previously.
  • Upper Primary Classes receive Rs 9.29 instead of Rs 8.17.

What other support does the Government of India provide under the PM POSHAN Scheme?

About 26 lakh MT of foodgrains annually through the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

100% cost of foodgrains, including a subsidy of approximately Rs 9,000 crore per year.

100% transportation cost of foodgrains from FCI depots to schools.
