Kerala has secured approval from the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) to erect a check dam across the Silandhi river in Vattavada village in the hill district of Idukki, which is likely to lead to the eruption of another interstate water dispute.
It is located in the district of Idukki, near town of Munnar, Kerala.
It is part of Western ghat, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is also part of the larger Annamalai hills.
Area is about 7.5 square kilometres.
Several rivers originate and flow near the park like silandhi, pambar, periyar etc.
It is surrounded by Eravikulam National park, Pampadum Shola National park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and Mathikettan Shola Park.
It is famous for its rich biodiversity in the form of several flora & fauna.
Flora: Tropical montane forests, grasslands, shola forests.
Fauna: Nilgiri Tahr, Lion-tailed macaque, sambar, Indian bison etc.
