Context

  • Tamil Nadu urges Kerala to increase outflow from Siruvani dam.

 

About

  • Siruvani dam is a dam in Palakkad District, Kerala.
  • This dam constructed across the Siruvani River, is for supplying drinking water to the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
  • The dam is surrounded by reserve forests. Muthikulam hill is situated on the eastern side of the dam.
  • The famous 150-year-old Pattiyar Bungalow is on the banks of the Siruvani Reservoir.

 

Siruvani River

  • The Siruvani River is a river near Coimbatore. It is tributary of Bhavani river,which in turn is a tributary of Kaveri.
  • Part of the Siruvani River is near Mannarkkad in the Indian District of Palakkad, Kerala.
  • The river leads into two big tourist attractions in Southern India, namely, the Siruvani Dam and the Siruvani Waterfalls.
  • The dam is also near The Banan Fort.
