The Prime Minister of India met the President of Suriname, Mr Chandrikapersad Santokhi, on the sidelines of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 9th January 2023.
President Santokhi is a Special Guest of Honour at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas.
They discussed several issues including cooperation in areas of mutual interest including hydrocarbons, defence, maritime security, digital initiatives and ICT, and capacity building.
Suriname:
Suriname is officially known as the Republic of Suriname.

Biodiversity in Suriname is considered high due to the variety of habitats and temperatures.
It is a developing country with a relatively high level of human development indicators.
The economy is heavily dependent on its large natural resources, namely bauxite, gold, petroleum, and agricultural products.
It is the only sovereign country outside of the European continent where Dutch is the official language of Government, administration, etc.
