About Technology and Innovation Report 2025

The 2025 edition has the title Inclusive Artificial Intelligence for Development.

Currently, just 100 companies—mostly in the U.S. and China—control 40% of global spending on research and development (R&D). This shows how much power is concentrated in a few hands

At the same time, 118 countries, mostly from poorer regions like Africa and South America, aren’t even part of discussions about AI rules. These countries risk being left far behind unless they take action soon.

Highlights of the Report

The US leads the world in AI investment, with $67 billion in 2023, which is about 70% of all global AI investments. China comes in second, with $7.8 billion.

In 2023, India ranked 10th globally, with $1.4 billion in private AI investment. While India has made progress, it still lags behind the two giants.

The report highlights five countries that show scientific strength in AI: China, Germany, India, the UK, and the US . These countries are leading in research and innovation.

India ranks 36th out of 170 countries on the Readiness for Frontier Technologies Index. The ranking improved from 48th in 2022, which suggests that India is getting better at preparing for advanced technologies like AI.

According to the report, up to 40% of jobs around the world could change because of AI. Some jobs may disappear, but new ones will also appear. Developing countries should prepare their workers by improving infrastructure, collecting useful data, and teaching people new skills.
