- The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and its media partners from 30 countries have received 182 gigabytes of leaked data from Uber files.
Details
- The Uber data included 124,000 records from the 2013-17 period.
- The leaked data included:
- Internal company emails.
- WhatsApp messages.
- Over the years, Uber has faced severe media scrutiny.
- The Uber Files showed that the company’s top executives reacted in a poor manner over the allegation of rape by an Uber driver in New Delhi in 2014. The executives blamed faulty background checks of drivers by Indian government officials.
- The leaked data also indicated the manner in which Uber increased its closeness among the bureaucracy and political class to influence policy.
- In India, with approximately 6 lakh driver-partners and a presence in over 100 cities and towns, Uber has created significant earning and employment opportunities.
