Context:

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions launched the 'Viksit Panchayat Karmayogi' initiative on Good Governance Day to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions and promote decentralised, citizen-centric governance.

What is the 'Viksit Panchayat Karmayogi' initiative?

It was designed to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). 

It focuses on increasing the capacity of elected representatives and officials by providing them with the tools and knowledge they require to ensure effective governance and participatory planning at the local level.

This program aims to promote equitable and long-term development in rural India by improving PRI. It is currently tested in Odisha, Assam, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.  

It is part of the larger 'Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur' campaign, which seeks to decentralise governance and promote participatory decision-making at the grassroots level. 

How does the 'Viksit Panchayat Karmayogi' initiative aim to improve governance at the grassroots level?

Its goal is to improve the effectiveness of Panchayati Raj institutions by providing innovative tools and frameworks for capacity building.

It employs technology, such as AI chatbots and mobile apps, to improve knowledge access and service delivery.

It enables local leaders and officials to make more informed decisions, promoting decentralised governance and participatory planning at the grassroots level.
